The Tlowitsis First Nation has made an application to Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada (INAC) to approve what is called an “Addition to Reserve” for a property we are purchasing on Vancouver Island on York Road, near Campbell River.
Coming out of our community visioning process, our elders have given the land a name: Nenakwas (a place to come home to). A place to come home to is a cohesive community that we have been without for far too long. The wish of the Tlowitsis people is simple: to live in harmony with our environment and our neighbours.
We know that people have questions about our proposal and what it means for the York Road area. That’s why we are sharing information about our proposal and hoping to answer questions about our plans for the future.
The “Addition to Reserve” process is just the first step in our efforts to realize our vision for a new community and home for the Tlowitsis people.
